Ah, the ketchup bottle. Whatever shall we do with you?
My husband sent me a link to this article on one of my favorite websites about how to use old catchup (or ketchup?) bottles…as pancake dispensers. I guess that works for someone who wants to make them fresh everyday but can’t be bothered to mix ingredients–but really–is it THAT helpful? I don’t think so.
I would forget to throw it out after a day or two (because storing pancake batter with raw eggs and milk in it means it would expire very quickly) and it would consequently change color, texture and odor. Then it would become that “mystery in a bottle” in the back of the fridge…and then my child would likely make up a song about it and sing it on the bus the next time we’re out.…
So I knew ketchup bottles for pancake batter dispensing was out of the question.
…but then I had to throw out a squeeze bottle of maple syrup and I wondered….what could I have done with it instead?
I like to keep most squeeze bottles to reuse for their original product, either as a smaller, user-friendly container for when I buy it in a huge-container at Costco, or for home-made versions of those products.
But here are some more ideas:
Buy chocolate syrup in the can and transfer to this container for easy-pouring
Make a cat toy. Click the picture to find out how.
Store small amounts of paint for later use
Store left over wine for cooking
Use to dispense sour cream
Use to hold and dispense small craft items like glitter or tiny beads
Homemade salad dressing
Homemade sauces like white sauce or bbq sauce
Homemade Natural Dishwasher soap
More homemade dishwasher soap this time with chemicals
Homemade dish soap , another recipe for dish soap
Scouring Powder for cleaning anything
Homemade masks and other specialty facials
Decorate plates, cookies and other items with sauces and frostings using a ketchup bottle
